Paulette Rowe

Managing Director, Barclaycard Payment Solutions (BPS)

Since taking the helm 4 years ago, Paulette has transformed the business, delivering a strongly growing topline and improved customer and control focus. Following her “Defend, Extend, Evolve” strategy, the business has retained 94/97 of its largest corporate relationships and won major new clients, becoming the number one acquirer for UK corporates (by card turnover). In 2016 BPS recruited and retained record numbers of small business customers and delivered record income and a significant uplift in PBT.

The acquisition of innovative payment service provider, The Logic Group, at the end of 2014 has added a world class platform in the strategically important gateway and omnichannel space. This, coupled with a major programme to transform BPS’ core billing systems and onboarding process is set to secure Barclays’ position as a major player in payment processing and payment integration.

Paulette’s commitment to managing talent and creating a winning business culture has been a consistent part of her leadership. Her BPS ExCo is, typically, very diverse with women making up half of her direct reports.

Paulette started her career in financial services at GE Capital working internationally for their consumer finance and equity finance businesses. She was then a member of the RBS Retail Banking Executive Committee, managing the NatWest Retail organisation of 20,000 people and 1600 branches before moving to the role of CEO, RBS European Consumer Finance. Prior to joining Barclaycard she was Strategy Director for AIM-listed banking challenger NBNK.

Paulette has had a long association with the third sector. As Chair of children’s charity The Mayor’s Fund for London she is credited with successfully steering the Fund through a period of strategic repositioning and expanding its charitable activities and impact over her 4 year tenure.

Paulette graduated with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and Management from Birmingham University and an MBA from INSEAD. She is a single “mum” having become guardian to her now 14 year old nephew in 2015.

In 2016 Paulette was recognised as a top 100 Black and Minority Ethnic Leader in UK Business and one of the top100 most influential Black Britons. She is listed in the Digital Banking Club’s Power 50 of most influential thought leaders from European financial services and in 2017 was named one of Payments Source’s most influential women in payments.
