What were your most memorable previous jobs?
I really appreciated the jobs where I had international responsibilities and lived abroad. To work with so many people with different cultures and backgrounds has broadened my horizon and I perceived this as an enrichment of my professional and private life.
What was your first job, what did it teach you?
After completing my studies and before joining Deutsche Bank, I worked a few weeks as parcel carrier at UPS. It was physically quite demanding since it was during Christmas season and I had to carry superheavy packages into multi-storey buildings. I quickly learned that friendliness and modesty is directly correlated with the tip I received.
Why did you want to work for Cards & Payments?
Because Barclaycard is a highly dynamic, profitable and growing business in a fast-changing environment – what can you expect more?
What do you love most about your job?
What I enjoy most in my job is the variety of topics I have to deal with on a daily basis and the interaction with a diverse group of colleagues and stakeholders. This is highly inspiring and exciting.
What do you do in your spare time?
I am privileged to live near the Elbe river which is offering nice beaches, water sports activities as well as nice outdoor spots to hang around with friends and family.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
I quite like the famous quote of Alfred Herrhausen (the legendary former CEO of Deutsche Bank): “We should say what we think. We should do what we say. And we should be what we do”. I think that’s a pretty good guideline.
